Salvation

What is salvation? When did salvation come to the humans race? Why do we need salvation? Who gives salvation? How do I obtain salvation? In our lesson “The Origin of Evil” we learned that a rebellious angel named Lucifer (now Satan) brought guilt, disobedience and sin to our world. This condition, sin, affected the whole human race. In this lesson we will learn about sins counter part – salvation and what is can do for us. During this lesson we will answer all the questions above and hopefully more.

Salvation is the exact opposite of sin. Sin brings rebellion, unhappiness and eternal death, but salvation brings obedience, happiness and eternal life. God provided a way for us to escape the long term consequence of sin (eternal death). God provided a way for us to be saved and obtain eternal life.

Q. How was God's love manifested towards us? 1 John 4:8, 9

A. “8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” God's love for us prompted Him to give His only begotten Son so we can have eternal life through Him.

Q. Why does God love the whole human race? Gen. 1:27-31

A. [Read the passages.] God loves the human race simply because He created us in His image.

To fully understand why we need salvation, first we

must understand the impact sin has on the human race.

We also need to understand sins effect on us.

Q. What was the first thing that sin did to our relationship with God? Gen 3:8

A. “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.” Adam and Eve tried to hide themselves from God. So the first thing sin did to our relationship with God was it destroyed our fellowship with Him. (See Isaiah 59:1, 2).

Q. What is another thing that sin did to our relationship with God? Romans 6:23

A. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Sin has separated us from God and we deserve eternal death because of our sin.

Q. Why do we deserve the eternal death penalty and does it effect the whole human race? Romans 3:23

A. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” In Romans 6:23 it says, “For the wages of sin is death.” We deserve the death penalty because we fall short of God's glory. This effects the whole human race because “all have sinned.”

Q. What is the contrast between Adam and Jesus? Romans 5:18, 19

A. [Read the passages.] Judgment came to all men through Adam's offense as a result we stand condemned. Through the righteous act of Jesus, the free gift came to all men, as a result we can our lives can be justified. By Adam's disobedience many are made sinners, but by Jesus' obedience many will be made righteous.

In the next few questions we will talk about why

Jesus can justify our lives and give us life.

Q. Can we be redeemed from sin's eternal death penalty? Galatians 3:13

A. “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”[Deuteronomy 21:23]. When sin came upon the human race so did the curse of the law, which is the eternal death penalty, so as a result the whole human race is cursed with death. Jesus came to bare that curse for us, so we won't have to.

Q. What happened to Jesus when He took on our curse upon Himself? Hebrews 2:8, 9

A. [Read the passages.] Jesus experienced eternal death for us.

Q. What else did Jesus do for us when He took on our curse? 2 Corinthians 5:21

A. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Jesus became sin for us and took our place in the eternal death penalty.

Q. What must we do to be pardoned from our sins and what will we receive in return? Acts 3:19

A. “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” We need to repent and be converted (turn from sinful practices) in order to receive pardon for our sins. If we repent and turn from our sinful ways the Lord will refresh our lives and we will receive His blessings and forgiveness.

Q. If we confess our sin to the Lord, what will He do for us in return? 1 John 1:9

A. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” When we confess our sins, He will give us pardon and we will be cleansed from all unrighteousness (wrong doings).

Q. What happens when we receive Jesus? Romans 8:1

A. “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” We are no longer condemned when we receive Jesus into our lives.

Q. How do we get saved and where does salvation come from? Ephesians 2:8

A. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” By God's grace and through our faith we receive salvation. We can not save our selves, but God gives it to us as a gift.

Q. What happens when we receive Jesus by faith? John 1:12

A. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” When we receive Jesus and believe in His name, we receive the right to become a child of God. In-other-words, God adopts us into His family.

Q. If we have Jesus what else do we have? 1 John 5:11-13

A. [Read the passages.] If we have Jesus God gives us eternal life.

Q. What does the following verse tell us? John 3:16

A. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” We are promised eternal life for believing in Jesus, sll because God loves us.

Q. Would you like to claim Jesus as your savior so you can claim the promise of eternal life?
