The Origin Of Evil

Q. What is the greatest character aspect of God? 1 John 4:8

A. “God is love.”

Q. Does God and man have the same enemy? Matthew 13:24-28.

A. Yes! [Read this passage.] The good seed represents the people who follow God. The tares [weeds], represent the enemy and those who follow him. The man who sewed the good seed represents Jesus and He quotes, “An enemy has done this.” So, the enemy of God and man sows evil tares in the field of the world.

Q. Who is the enemy of God and man? Ezekiel 28:12-17

A. [Read the passage.] Lucifer (Satan) was at one time a beautiful angel that God created, just like us. God also created the angels with the freedom of choice, like He did us. Lucifer was too proud and his pride led him to rebel and he chose to make God, then later us, his enemy.

Q. Why did Lucifer choose to make God his enemy? Isaiah 14:12-14

A. [Read the passage.] Lucifer's pride led him to believe he was better than God and could run the universe better than God can, so he sought to exalt his throne above God's. Lucifer's' desire was, also, to make his own laws instead of observe God's laws.

Q. What happened in heaven as a result of Lucifer's rebellion? Revelation 12:7-9

A. [Read the passage.] A great war broke out in heaven. Michael (Jesus) and His angles fought against Lucifer and the angels that decided to follow him into his rebellion. Jesus won the war and cast Lucifer and his angels out of heaven. This is when Lucifer became Satan, the devil and the dragon.

Q. How does the Bible describe Satan's' fall? Luke 10:18

A. “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” The Lord said that Satan fell like lightening.

Q. What happened in Genesis 1:27-31?

A. [Read the passage.] It describes that God created male and female in His own image. It tells us that God blessed the new couple, gave them the whole earth for their home.

Q. What did God do with Adam and Eve after He created them? Genesis 2:8, 15

[Read the passages.] God gave them a place to live and told them to subdue it; be fruitful and multiply.

Q. God gave Adam and Eve a command, what was it? Genesis 2:16, 17

A. “The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.””

Q. Did Adam and Eve obey God's commands? Genesis 3:1-7

A. [Read the passage] Satan lead Adam and Eve to mistrust God by openly rebelling and defying God's command.

Q. How does sin effect our relationship with God? Isaiah 59:1, 2

A. “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, That it cannot save; Nor His ear heavy, That it cannot hear. But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” Sin has separated us from God.

Q. What is the ultimate consequence of sin? Romans 6:23

A “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The ultimate result of disobeying God is death.

Q. Has sin changed the nature of the human race? Jeremiah 17:9

A. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; Who can know it?” Yes. The nature of the human race has changed. The result of mankind's disobedience is, his nature became sinful.

Q. What is the state of the human race as a result of sin? Romans 5:12; 6:16

A. [Read the passages.] The entire human race has plunged into guilt, disobedience and sin. If we present our selves as slaves of sin it will lead to (eternal) death.

Q. What is the main purpose of Jesus? Hebrews 2:14-17; 4:15

A. [Read the passages.] Jesus took on our human nature, faced the same temptations as we do and gained victory over sin. Jesus became our merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God to provide deliverance of sins for the people. Jesus can sympathize with our weaknesses to temptations because He was tempted in all points as we are.

Q. Can Adam's failure be redeemed? Romans 5:17-19

A. [Read the passage.] “(v. 19) For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” Jesus redeemed Adam's failure.

Q What does redemption through Christ do for us? Romans 3:24, 25

A. “Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation (atonement) by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness...” Redemption is given to us freely through Jesus.

Q. Does God, personally, want to give us support through our difficulties? Isaiah 41:13

A. “For I, the LORD your God, will hold your right hand, saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’” Jesus wants us to know He is there to help us through all of our difficulties today. He wants to give us comfort in all our troubles. Will you let Him?

Q. Will Satan be punished for his crimes against humanity? Ezekiel 28:17, 18

A. [Read the passage.] There will be a time, in the not so distant future, that Satan will be punished (by death) for his crimes and God will put an end to all sin.

Q What else will God do in the near future, besides put an end to Satan and sin? Revelation 21:1-5

A. [Read the passage.] Satan and sin ending means a new beginning for those who were faithful to God until the end. God will reward His faithful followers with eternal life and establish new havens and a new earth.

Q. Will sin ever be a problem again? Nahum 1:9

A. “What do you conspire against the LORD? He will make an utter end of it. Affliction will not rise up a second time.” Sin will be abolished forever and will never rear its ugly head again.
